The oldest zoo in North America—Lincoln Park Zoo opened in 1868 when they were gifted with a pair of swans by the Central Park’s Board of Commissioners in New York City. They received another gift of a bear cub from the Philadelphia Zoo in 1874.
Expect to see 1,100 animals from 200 species including elephants, giraffes, aardvark, ostriches, chimpanzees, western lowland gorillas, big cats, and much more.
The zoo had a major transformation in the 1970s and 1980s for additions of bringing in several new naturalistic exhibits. Some newer exhibit additions include the polar bear and African penguin.

Admission is FREE! The zoo relies on its donations and goes directly into improving the zoo.
